vmunix: task table is full

I have an AlphaServer 2100 which is providing us with more and more services,
just recently it has started to refuse logins and nfs mounts and reports:
  vmunix: task table is full
errors on its console.

Is there a fix for this? If anyone can set me straight on this I would be
much obliged.
