SUMMARY: PC memory in Alpha 1000

Thanks for all the response. Yes you can use non-Digital Memory in the
boxes. The only worry, being, this could invalidate Digital's warranty.

To Summarise:

You must use ECC memory. And you must insert memory in blocks of
5 SIMMs. 4 SIMMs - memory, 5th used for ECC check.

Many of the 3rd party memory suppliers ( eg. Dataram, Kingston) sell
memory kits for the Alphaserver 1000 at prices somewhat higher than
commodity prices, but far below Digitals prices. The benefit of their kits
over commodity product is that they will warrant it to work correctly in
the Alpha 1000 and will replace it if you have any problems.
