We're trying to run CDE displays from an Alpha machine to a lot of Xterms.
The problem is that each login takes about 60MB of memory, of which 30MB
is constantly being used for nothing more than sitting at the desktop. A
similar Sun machine doesn't have any problems (only about 2MB memory per
login, 1MB of which can be swapped out).
What is it about the Alpha implementation which makes it so memory hungry
and how can I work around this?
We're using Digital Unix v4.0b on an AlphaStation 500 (as a test bed).
