DNS question

Hi,

This is not so much a Unix question but a DNS question...

Here is the setup:

At a customer site there is a firewall. No internal
DNS. Internal Mailhub only. DNS files on the firewall
has an A record and MX record to send all mail to the
mailhub for "domain.com". This works fine.

Another domain called "outside.domain.com", which is on the
dirty side of the net but has the same ending as "domain.com"
is defined in external DNS, a.k.a the internet provider.
They also have their own internal mailhub.

Although "domain.com" and "outside.domain.com" is the same
customer, in the same building, each domain has their own
internet provider. They're not the same. One is behind the firewall,
the other domain isn't.

I have tried adding A, MX and PTR records on our firewall for
"outside.domain.com" and also totally removing it. What we get is,
people from "domain.com" can not send mail to "outside.domain.com"
The mail just sits on the firewall not knowing where to go, or if
the A and MX record is removed for "outside.domain.com" it bounces
back to the internal mailhub.

Here is an example of the A and MX record....

domain.com. IN MX 5 internalmailhub.domain.com.

If I add the "outside.domain.com"...

outside.domain.com. IN A 123.123.123.123
                      IN MX nodename.outside.domain.com.
                        (I have even changed nodename.outside.domain.com.
                                to just outside.domain.com.)

I also have a PTR record in the reverse file when this is added.

External mail to outside.domain.com works fine. Will it be possible
for internal users at domain.com to send mail to outside.domain.com and
if so, how can I get it done.

thanks,
Allan
