Hi managers,
I have two AlphaServers 4100s running DU 3.2g with DECSafe 1.30. I
have created a service that migrates an address. This is a user-defined
service, and all it does is migrate the address, and ensure that named
is running on the new host. The address is migrated manually by means
of the alias option under ifconfig.
When I run nslookup and set the server to the normal address for
either of these hosts it works fine. When I run nslookup and set the
server to the address of the nfs or disk services it works fine. When I
run nslookup and set the server to the user-defined service, it times
out.
When I ping the user-defined service it works fine. I can also
telnet to it.
So, my question is two fold: 1) What does DECSafe to to alias an
address that I am not doing? 2) Why is only DNS affected?
I realize that I could tie my name service address to a disk
service, but I would like to know why this isn't working. Also, I
realize I could just have two name servers running. I actually do, but
I would like the name service to failover faster than a DNS timeout.
Thanks,
-cliff
