Hello,
We're in the process of upgrading our current HSOF software (V2.7) to V-3.0x
Reading the upgrade procedures in the release notes, we saw that "DEC Does
not recommend the SAVE_CONFIGURATION parameters in a dual redundant
configuration"
That was NOT written in the V2.7 version of the software. We currently have
MULTIPLE DISKS containing the controller configuration. Is there a way to
remove that WITHOUT destroying the disks contents, before we do the upgrade
? We would also like to minimize the associated downtime.
Thanks !

It looks like it's not a good idea to keep the configuration on the disks in
a dual redundant configuration (or in single controller config if you plan
to upgrade to dual in the near future). DEC does not recommend it (I really
don't know why) and it could become "unsupported" in the future.
Unfortunatly, there is no way to UNDO the SAVE_CONFIGURATION parameter on an
HSZ40 unit.
If you want to get rid of it, for each disk that has the SAVE_CONFIG on it,
You have to:
1) backup all your data (ALWAYS TAKE A FULL BACKUP WHEN YOU PLAY WITH THE
HSZ40, WE'VE ALREADY LOST 6 Gigs with NO BACKUP while adding a couple of
disks (which normally is "routine" to the controller (DEC forgot to shutdown
the controller and disconnected the cache batteries on a controller to check
its revision), and let me tell you that's hard to explain to your BOSS)
2) Copy the disk content somewhere else if you can do it (with dump or vdump)
3) unmount the disks destroy the filesets+domains or filesystems
4) Delete the HSZ40 unit or storageset
5) Recreate the unit with NO_SAVE_CONFIGURATION
6) Recreate filedomain+filesets
7) Restore the original disk contents from copy or tape (with vrestore or
restore)
HTH
P.S.: If someone has a better solution, feel free to add to this summary and
share with the list.
