Hello,

Since we upgraded the software from V2.7 to V3.0, we had a couple of
problems that I will describe here. Maybe the problem is not related to the
upgrade and it only a coincidence, but I would like to check with the rest
of you.

Here is what happenned the 1st time:

-Everything was running just fine
-One morning, we discovered that our nightly backup did not work. DU was not
seeing the tape device anymore. The reset light on one of the HSZ was lit
continuously and the controller had stopped responding. According to the
manual, this means that "no program card is seen". All disk devices have
failed over to the surviving controller, except for the tape drives (Tape
not failing over is a BUG with the HSZ40, confirmed by DEC)
-Called DEC, they sent a tech to replace the controller.
-During the C_SWAP procedure (we did it "cold" to havoid problems) we had a
message from the replaced controller telling us that the battery was LOW and
that write back caching was disabled. After a while (couple of hours) the
batterry was recharched and opertation resumed normally.

It worked for one day.

-This morning: Same problem, backup did not work, controller dead, EXCEPT
that this time, the reset leds indicates that the controller was shutdown
because of a cache battery failure. DEC will replace the batterries tomorrow.

Do you know if this can be related to the HSOF upgrade ?

Also, when we set the TIME on our HSZ's (SET THIS TIME=dd-mmm-yy:hh-mm:ss)
for some reason, the controllers lose track of time after a while (or maybe
after a shutdown) and we constantly have to reset the time.

Any help would be appreciated.
