OSF'ers,
Just in case everyone starts asking the same questions, I'm posting this mini summary. I'm still getting email through from people so I'll post part2 at a later date with all the info I have been donated...

Are you using it?

There seems to be a limited pre-release group using it. Its not on general release.

What are the main differences you have noticed?

It seems to be a big bug fix, performance and year 2000 complient (???) release.

Have there been any performance gains as implied in the article?

Depending on type of applications there may well be. Difficult to comment further.

Are there any howlers/problems?

None have been reported in the emails so far.

There was talk of version 5.0 DU. Is there any timescale for this being released?

The 4.0D version should start shipping in the next month although no one has given a firm date. The email included below states RSN (Real Soon Now). So be patient and Santa may take you a copy.....

Who are the best people at digital that would field these sort of questions?

Mixed responce on this. Seems the people who may be able to answer the questions don't subscribe to OSF-MANAGERS. The DECUS forum has been mentioned as a forum that may be able to facilitate access to the right people at DEC. Anyone got any comments on DECUS?????....

Hope this covers enough just now.! Many thanks for the responces so far!

Hope everyone has a great time over the festive period.

Best Wishes

Paul W Grant

Paul,

The v4.0d release of DU is slated for RSN (real soon now). Unless it's
pushed back, it should start shipping to customers within a month. No
official release date has been set.
