Thanks to everyone for the great responses.
Original problem:
This weekend I am adding a second processor (4/275) to my Alpha 2100
and a second processor (5/300) to my Alpha 4100. These two systems
are both running DUNIX V4.0a and AltaVista Firewall 96.
I've not had to do an upgrade like this before and I'm wondering if
there are any gotcha's or anything which I need to be aware of and
track. DECompaq will be in to do the hardware install but rebuilding
the kernel falls under my domain.
Answers:
The general consensus was this is a very easy and straightforward
upgrade. I need to make sure I have my additional licenses (I do),
make sure the firmware is up-to-date (it is), make sure the power
supplies are adequate (they are).
Everyone except for one person said I did not need to rebuild the
kernel as V4.0 automatically sees multiprocessors. Digital seconded
this thought. I'll have my spare copy of the production kernel and
the instructions for rebuilding on hand just in case though.
Thanks for all the great help and advice.
