Here's the situation:
We had a complete system installed & running on a DU 4.0D machine
with 5 disks set up JBOD. The first disk was partitioned for the
root, /usr, /oracle, and a custom software package filesystem. The
following four drives with Oracle data bases on them were mounted as
/disk1-4 without being partitioned.
We have now wiped the system clean and set it up as RAID 5 as one
large logical drive. Can someone explain to me the reasons
for/against partitioning, creating logical drives, or just mounting
everything onto the one drive? I'm a little foggy as to why things
were done the way they were and what we should do when putting the
system back on.
Thanks.
