  Sorry for the late (non-)summary, but I did not receive any
  suggestions, so noone seems to encounter any problems of this kind.

  |=>
  |=> Hello,
  |=> I'm trying to connect a laptop running Windoze95 via serial port
  |=> tty00 to a Alpha433.
  |=> The laptop is running µ$$ HyperTerminal emilator in vt100 mode.
  |=> Using the Dec provided gettydefs entry 9600:<odd numbers>
  |=> I can make the terminal display a login prompt, accept a user
  |=> name and ask for a password (getty /dev/tty00 9600 vt100), but
  |=> the password is echoed and nothinmg else happens until I
  |=> interrupt the getty process.
  |=> When starting getty the Alpha tells me:
  |=>
  |=> before starting getty the device tty00 has permissions ugo+rw,
  |=> afterwards u+rw,go+w
  |=>
  |=> What am I missing ? (Or where may I find some documentation, the
  |=> man pages aren't very helpful in this case)

  Regards,
                                                Dieter
