Thanks to:

  "Alan Rollow - Dr. File System's Home for Wayward Inodes."
     <alan_at_nabeth.cxo.dec.com>
and

  "Dr. Tom Blinn, 603-884-0646" <tpb_at_doctor.zk3.dec.com>

who pointed me to the right direction.

I found what went wrong myself:

I setup ewa0 (ethernet port) as the boot device, and there happened to be
a major network disruption during the installation, hence the timeout.

I've changed to DKC0 (dkc0.0.0.1009.0 DKC0 RZ1CC-BA 883F) and everything
is fine now.

Thanks again.
