-- I have received a couple of flames from the (I suspect self-appointed) list police regarding the job advert I posted on this list, along the lines of: > If you're not a subscriber to an international mailing list and don't know > what the list policies are, it would behoove you to find out BEFORE you post > to the list. Doing otherwise is unethical and inconsiderate. I absolutely agree, which is why I read the summary of the Alpha-OSF-managers charter and rules, and also asked our outgoing SysAdmin (who was a long-term subscriber) whether it would be appropriate, before I sent the job announcement. Although obviously not the primary purpose of the list, the job advertisement is, in effect, a "Digital UNIX on Alpha systems management question", and our outgoing SysAdmin assured me that he had seen job adverts on the list before. However, I now realise that this was too liberal an interpretation of the summary, for which I apologise: Rest assured, this will be my last message to this list -- like most of you, I'm too busy to deal with spam and flame mail. You may be interested to know, however, that I received an e-mail resume within an hour of posting the announcement, so for at least one member of the list, the message was very much on-topic.
