I have a system running DU 4.0. I am trying to build a more contemporary
version sendmail for this system--specifically sendmail version 8.8.8.

When I attempt to run the build script, it dies right away:

root> makesendmail
Configuration: os=OSF1, rel=V4.0, rbase=V4, rroot=V4.0, arch=alpha, sfx=
Making in obj.OSF1.V4.0.alpha
cc -Olimit 1000 -I. -O -I/usr/sww/include -DNDBM -DNEWDB -DNIS
-DUSE_VENDOR_CF_P
ATH -c alias.c
cc: Severe: sendmail.h, line 50: Cannot find file <unistd.h> specified in
#inclu
de directive.
# include <unistd.h>
--^
cc: Error: sendmail.h, line 50: Object file deleted.
# include <unistd.h>
--^
*** Exit 1
Stop.

The file unistd.h does not exist on my system.

Here are the packages that are installed:

Can anyone give me an idiot-proof explanation of what unistd.h is, where I
can find it, and how I install it?

Thanks so much for the help!

Regards,
Jon
