Problem with starting UNIX

Dear helpers,

I have now a problem with booting our UNIX host (DEC Alpha Version 4.0B)

Last week I have moved the /etc directory to /usr/etc and relinked /usr/etc to /etc.
(ln -s). This seems a very stupid action because I now have problems with booting the DEC host. It seems that our DEC only boots in single user mode. Can anyone help me to solve the problem and to get /etc back again? I have a backup of / and /usr created with dump level0

Thanks in advance
