Abstract of original problem:

> I was just shipped a DU 4.0B workstation from a customer. When I plugged
it

CDE

> How do I configure this system to run in CDE mode?

The solution turns out to be trivial. You can set XLOGIN to cde in
/etc/rc.config or you can run /usr/sbin/xsetup and answer the questions
(xsetup just appears to automate the editing process for you). If you want
to switch back, set XLOGIN to xdm (or run xsetup again).
