firmware upgrade hitch, Alphastation 600

This is more of a headsup than a question, but...

I'm upgrading from DU 4.0d to 4.0e. I have two personal workstation 600aus.
Both tanked on the firmware upgrade - panic during the SRM write
and a refusal to do anything but beep and have a blank screen after
that.

The cure is to boot the machine with a firmware floppy in, and do
the firmware upgrade again. Originally I thought my firmware cd was bad,
as that was what I was using when the first one panicked. But I
used the firmware floppy for the second one, and it panicked too.
It didn't want "boot dva0" at the console, it wanted to be booted
with the floppy in so it never went to the console.

I haven't seen this behavior with 3000/300 or an alphastation 500,
or an alphastation 250. Although I must say that 512 out of 640
megs of memory in the alphastation 500 stopped working very shortly after
the upgrade. No word yet on why.

Good luck with your upgrades.

-amy
