Gurus,

1) My question:

How can I avoid to set 2 entries in /etc/printcap for an Apple
16-600 printer, one for ASCII text and one for Postscript?

2) I got THE answer from Tom Webster <webster_at_ssdpdc.lgb.cal.boeing.com>
Here it is, it says everything:

You are trying to make this more complex than it needs to be. The Apple
IP capable printers, like Lexmarks but unlike DEC's, "autosense"
postscript files in the "text" queue. It looks for the "%!" or "%!PS" at
the beginning of the file, if it finds it it treats it as postscript.

Just make sure that the autosense option it tuned on (I know it is
optional on the Lexmarks, but I can't remember if you can shut it off on
a LW16/600), then just use the "text" queue -- works like a charm. THe
only hassle is if you want to dump a postscript file in raw form to a
printer....

Thanks!

Jean-Loup
