Yesterday I sent this question to the list:

I have an Alpha 2000 that I recently upgraded to DU 4.0B (patch kit 5 installed). My machine reboots once a week on Sunday morning via cron. Ever since the upgrade the default route is not added automatically.
To find out the cause, I added some debugging information in /sbin/rc3 and in /sbin/rc3.d/S12route and had my machine rebooting every night. Since then the problem doesn't reoccur.
On Friday I removed the debugging and this morning again the default route was not present.
Has anyone already seen this ? It seems like a timing problem. So far I have only seen this on 2 out of our 8 machines.

A lot of people replied me to check the contents of /etc/routes. Well there is nothing wrong with this file. If I add some debugging information in /sbin/rc3 and in /sbin/rc3.d/S12route, then the default route which is in /etc/routes is added fine.
One person replied me he was experiencing the same problem after applying patch kit 5 and even 6. So I am convinced that something is wrong. This morning the problem occured on a third machine.
Thanks for any help.
