I'm an end-user who also gets to serve as my own system administrator. I'm
attempting to add an external 23 GB SCSI hard drive (Seagate ST423451W). I saw
several question posts but no answers...

I have my drive physically hooked up to the wide SCSI bus on my AlphaStation 600
5/333. At the boot prompt if I do

>>> show device

I get

dkb800.8.0.1002.0 DKB800 SEAGATE ST423451W 0013

I followed the directions in the system admin doc section 6.3 Adding Disk and
Tape Drives. After rebuilding my kernel, I used (guessing 8 for the device
number)

./MAKEDEV rz8

Now, when I try to

#disklabel -r rz8

I get the error message
disklabel: /dev/rrz8a: No such device or address

What did I do wrong?

thanks for your help,
