Hello managers,
i've asked for the possibilities to have additional scsi-disks
(scsi-busses) with my PWS433au.
Thank you all again for your responses and answers!
The momentary situation is still confusing (for me) and what is
very astonishing is that from your answers there no decision
between "it works" or "it does not work"...
The facts:
-> i've received several answers: "i have it up and running"
(that's the good point)
-> i've received also several answers: "the docs say, it's
not supported or even impossible"
(that's the bad point)
My conclusion is, i have to try it myself and see what happens then.
(I can't do that now, because my machine will only be back in 10 days
from an external job...)
You may stop reading now,
but if you're interested in, here are some more details:
-> first of all, the most recent systems and options catalog (SOC)
(to be found e.g. at
http://www.europe.digital.com/info/SOC)
does NOT have any supported PCI-SCSI adapter for this machine
any more. But obviously it has had some (KZPAA-AA) in an older
version.
-> this makes it possible, that it depends on the firmware-version
of the PWS, whether such a device will be recognized or not...
(This is why i *think* i'll have to try and find out myself...)
-> but even if it will be recognized, "HE IN HIS OWN WORDS" send me
a warning to make thorough tests (e.g. with diskx) before
i can believe it to run stable!
-> perhaps the most confusing item is, that there have been machines
which had that KZPAA-AA supported! But sorry, i don't know, which
kind of PWS is an "early enough one" in this sense.
And - even more confusing - there WILL BE new machines, that again
will support additional SCSI-busses...
The opinions differ from "they are already out" over "they will be
out in march/april" to "i doubt they will be out prior to august"...
-> What i could not learn from all your responses is how to see
(from firmware version, delivery date, exact type of machine, ...)
which machine will and which will not work with KZPAA-AA ...
I hope not to forget something essential now, but this is the actual
state of my knowledge concerning this odd "feature" of PWSs...
With regards,
Bernt Christandl
