RESULTS: (initial question at the end)
There is no special problem integrating a DS-RZ40-VA disk in a BA350-JA
shelf together with RZ29B-VA disks. If you have a RAID controller (such
as a SWXCR), be careful with firmware revision levels. The only concern
you should have is power consumption (the 7200 rpm 9 GB disks may
require 180 watt power supplies) and heat dissipation.
Labeling the RZ40 disk is no problem even if its reference is not
included in the disktab file. You only have to know that the disklabel
command gets the partitioning information from the disk itselt if it
doesn't find the reference in the disktab file. So, valid command to put
a label on a RZ40 disk (disk rz16 in this example) are:
disklabel -rw rz16 rz40
disklabel -rw rz16 rzxx
Thanks to everyone, what a great list...

Hi managers,
I run DU 4.0B with RZ28-VA and RZ29B-VA disks. I need more disk space
and I thought to achieve the new RZ40-VA disks with 9GB. They will be
placed in a BA350-JA shelf together with RZ29B-VA disks. A hardware
vendor told us that integrating this type of disk would be rather
complicated and he proposed us to let this be done by their specialists.
He also told us to tell him exactly what revisions of software are
running on the system. Does this really be of concern? Firmware
revisions of hardware are of concern, that's clear, but normally not
those of application software I suppose. I have added already many disks
on my own (RZ29B) without any problems. So, I would want to know what
special things have to be done to integrate such a RZ40-VA disk. Is it
really complicated or does the vendor only try to earn some additional
money?
One thing I noticed is that the reference of the RZ40-VA disk is not in
the /etc/disktab file, so putting a disklabel on this type of disk is
already a problem. How can I get the disklabel reference and what other
problems may I encounter with this type of disk?
I would be glad if you could tell me your experience with RZ40-VA disks.
Thanks
