Sanity check - ubc-max[min]percent values?

In trying to debug our problems with Oracle 7.3.4, DU 4.0d and swxcr I spoke
with a DEC rep who had me set the following vm: values on this system:

ubc-minpercent = 2
ubc-maxpercent = 5
ubc-borrowpercent = 2
ubc-maxdirtywrites = 5
ubc-nfsloopback = 1
vm-ubcseqpercent = 1

As I examine the tuning guide now, these values make no sense to me,
particularly since we have:

vm-ubcseqstartpercent = 50

It seems to me that having ubc-maxpercent at 5 essentially disables the UBC.
Is there some reason why you'd want to do this on a system with a SWXCR? Or
was this DEC support person on drugs??

TIA...
