moving installation containing sparse files.

Dear All,

I've spent the afternoon trying to relocate some an installation that
contains many sparse files.

Is there any easy mechanism to move a hierarchy, without the sparse files
being filed?

tar fills the holes, I thought dd might do the trick, but it'll have to be
wrapped in a script.

Any other ideas would be welcomed.
