D-Unix Managers,
I preparing to do some major upgrades to my Alpha 3000-600 machine and I
was hoping to get some encouragement that I'm heading in the right
direction. I need to bring this box up to D-Unix 4.0 from 3.2 and upgrade
it to Sendmail 8.8 (need the anti-spam measures). My current plan is to
upgrade the OS to 4.0d first, then upgrade Bind to version 8.1.2, then put
Sendmail 8.8.8. Does this sound about right? During this upgrade, one of
my major concerns is that we use a modified adduser script to create the
users (over 2000 accounts on this machine). This script runs a program to
check your UID first and then if it matches you are put into a pseudo-root
mode that runs adduser. This is so we can distribute the user creation
chores to our remote colleges. We had to make a few changes to this when we
put the Enhanced Security package on the box and I'm wondering if this is
going to be broken via some new adduser routine under 4.0. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any and all information provided. I will summarize my
findings to the list.
Thanks,
