We have an AlphaServer 4100 on loan from Compaq for purposes of doing some
benchmarks with our database product. I have a bunch of disks on a RAID
controller and 2 disks on the system shelf. On one of these I have
WindowsNT, on the other Digital UNIX. At least, this is the *theory*!
What's happening is quite strange. I installed WindowsNT on one disk and
all was well. Then I installed Digital UNIX on the other disk and that went
fine too. The trouble was when I think went *back* to boot up WindowsNT it
complained that there was no boot block. This despite the fact that I
hadn't laid a finger on the WindowsNT disk.
For better or worse the problem is quite consistent. I then reintalled
WindowsNT on the "problem" disk and it booted up. I then went back to boot
Digital UNIX off the other disk (again, I hadn't done ANYTHING to it!) and
it couldn't find the boot block! Ugh.
I've been doing the normal stuff as far as booting between the systems.
(i.e. chaning OS_TYPE at chevron between NT & UNIX.)
Anyone got any ideas??
Many thanks for any pointers or suggestions!
Chris
