My $.02 worth:
Unless Digital/Compaq have changed their licensing position since VAX/VMS
days... Your original license grants you the right to run ONE version of
the operating system. In order to upgrade even a maintenance release (V4.0B
-> V4.0D) you must either have a S/W maintenance contract or purchase what
used to be known as a Right-to-Copy-Version license. That would allow the
upgrade to "current" version regardless of what version you started with.
