DTMAIL loses the name of the MIME attachment file.

Hello,

We have received increasing numbers of MIME encoded mail messages
with "attachments" over the last few months, as I'm sure everyone has.
In many cases, the messages orginate on a personal computer and the
attachments are comprised of either MS Word or MS Excel files. Once
we receive these types of messages, we expect to be able to forward
the message to a personal computer (via POP3) to be read.

When using DTMAIL, we can forward the MIME message but we find that
the name of the attachment file has been changed. Namely, it looks
like DTmail changes the name to "ATTACHMENT" and once the message is
forwarded to the PC, the subject line of the message is substituted
as the name of the attachment. As such, the personal computer does
not know which application to automatically use to read the
attachment (i.e. file.xls would use Excel, etc.).

Does anyone know of a solution using DTMAIL to forward MIME
attachments on a DEC Unix computer without changing the name
of the attachment file?

Here are some notes:

  1) Problem is not with sendmail. If we use PINE, we can forward the
attachment to a PC and the name of the attachment file is
        retained.

  2) DTmail on a Sun workstation (Solaris 7) works properly, argh! The
name of the attachment is retained by DTmail and forwarded
        properly.

We would like to continue using DTmail since it works with the mailX
and Pine folders (as opposed to Netscape Mail which is what the
DEC/Compaq representative recommended we use...amazing).

Any ideas would be appreciated,
