vdump: unable to write to device....

I'm having problems writing to a tlz07-da external tape drive.

The first symptom of trouble was parity errors. The drive
became unusable so I swapped out one drive and installed
another.

Now the bahavior is that I can access the drive fine and
am able to do partial dumps until vdump quits with:

"vdump: unable to write to device (/dev/nrmt0h): [5] I/O error"
"vdump: so you want to retry?"

I have changed(cleaned the tape drive ) media severals times and still get
the error.

Until the initial parity errors it was all working fine for about
2 years.

The system is running DU4.0a.

Any ideas?
