xp1000 slower than 500au

i just got an xp1000 and was surprised to find that my app runs slower on
it compared with a 500au. the app is FP intensive molecular dynamics
code. i installed Fortran 5.2 and DXML 3.5, with EV6 support. i even
recompiled the application.

a little benchmark i have takes 64 seconds on an xp1000 and only 40
seconds on a 500au. both have 128MB RAM. the 500au has 2MB cache.

compile times are much faster on the xp1000, but execution times are
slower.

any ideas?
