For those of you who haven't had a chance to check our UNIX home page
lately, there is news on Tru64 UNIX V5.0 (which we announced this past
week) as well as the new TruCluster software that is a significant step
forward for highly available systems that work a lot more like OpenVMS
clusters than what's been available in the past from any vendor, Digital
(now Compaq) included. You can also find information on the V4.0F that
should be out this month with new really high performance servers and
workstations.
And for those who are interested in the future of Tru64 UNIX, you might
want to check the news at
http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/990408/tx_compaq_1.html
where it's announced that we've booted Tru64 UNIX on an Intel Merced
simulator.
Of course, you'll also find information about our agreement to continue
to support SCO's UNIX products on Compaq Intel systems. And we are also
very committed to Linux on Compaq products, both Alpha and Intel based.
With all this good UNIX news from Compaq, it's sometimes hard to tell if
it's too good to be true, or if there's some hidden message. What it all
comes down to (as far as I can tell, and I certainly don't know all there
must be to know) is that Compaq is committed to providing leadership UNIX
products to all our customers, current and prospective. Stay tuned..
Now back to your usual technical discourse..
