On the 30/3/99 I posted a request for help as to the configuration of
DECevent V2.9. Specifically, we don't want SICL notification, just internal
notification using the CUSTOMER mailing list facility.

I received no replies, so plugged on on my own.

I have a document which describes EXACTLY what I did to install and
configure DECevent, plus the testing strategy implemented. If anybody wants
a copy then let me know.

Basically the result is 'no result'. I can see (storage works based) disk
failures, HSZ based mirror failures (i.e.., physically pull out a disk to
simulate an error), power supply failures (i.e.., pull out shelf power
supply power cords) all logged to the binary error log.

I have been singularly unable to get any form of DECevent customer
notification messages to appear. I have tested the customer mailing list
and this works ok.

I have logged the fault with Compaq support. Initially they said things
along the line of 'DECevent is not designed to monitor these things' and
'Its an old tool, don't expect too much'. Then in a separate breath they
confirm that customer storage works based disk failures are being mailed
(SICL notification) in.

I think this is probably a configuration issue, rather than a lack of
technical capability. The fault has been passed to DECevent engineering in
the USA. The intention being to analyse the binary error log with the
(beta) DECevent v3.0 tools to see if this detects the problem.

I have as yet heard nothing back.

Best regards - Tony
