Here's the latest on the 8 character limit for login names,
thanks very much to Dave Hill and John Speno. My original
posting is at the very end.
David Hill <David.D.Hill_at_Compaq.com> gave the most thorough
and authoritative response which I summarize as follows:
The 8 character login name is what is SUPPORTED in Tru64 v5.0
as is true with earlier versions. However, v5.0 is just like
earlier versions in that it ALLOWS 11 character login names.
Also, due to ongoing efforts, login names up to 63 characters
in length will actually be supported in a post v5.0 release.
John P Speno <speno_at_isc.upenn.edu> indicated that the
/usr/bin/adduser program on his v5.0 test system still has
the 8 character limit.

Does anyone know if the maximum length of 8 characters
for a login ID in Tru64 UNIX version 4.0x will also be
the the limit in version 5.0 ?
