I have an Alphastation 400 4/233 that used to have Windows NT 4.0 on
it. It has been replaced in that incarnation, and I am attempting to
install DU 4.0e onto it.
I figured out how to back to the familiar SRM from the ARC that was
the current default, and am currently trying to upgrade the firmware
on it. (I had gotten quite a scare after rebooting after switching to
SRM--the screen was black and nothing happened. Turns out SRM wanted a
serial term for a console--I obliged for now).
Anyway, I have the Firmware Update v.5.3 cd in the drive, and the
system comes up to the firmware prompt OK. I type 'boot dka400', and
the system starts to boot. It gets to "Jumping to bootstrap code" and
hangs...all disk activity stops, and I can't get any response from the
system. I've tried booting from a firmware upgrade diskette I made
with mkbootfirm (with the firmware image from the CD on another DU
system), and I've tried booting from the 4.0e install CD, with the
same results.
Maybe I need some intermediate firmware upgrades in order to boot from
cd? (the current version on the AS is 3.9)
Any and all help would be appreciated, and of course I'll summarize
afterwards.
