instalupdate to older version ???

Hello managers,
   I've gotten into a bit of a pickle... loaded 4.0f on an XP1000
and it's too new to support a necessary PTC application. Is it
possible (and reasonable) to instalupdate FROM 4.0F BACK TO 4.0E ???
