Tru64 Unix 5.0 and /var/adm/utmp

Hello,

We recently did an update installation from 4.0f -> 5.0. I now
notice the following problem.

Symptom:

Commands which use /var/adm/utmp (e.g. w, users, who, etc.) only report
a subset of the true number of users currently logged in. In addition,
these commands now produce an audible "beep" during their output.

I can recreate the problem by doing:

1. Delete, then touch /var/adm/utmp, /var/adm/wtmp.
2. Let several (e.g. 10) users log in (and remain logged in).
3. Then w/users/who/etc. only shows a few (e.g. 3) of these users.

Rebooting the system doesn't fix the problem. So far, Compaq has been
unable to reproduce it.

----> Has anyone else using Tru64 5.0 seen or not seen this problem?

Thanks for any responses!
