Limiting network traffic, is it possible

Hi, sometimes backups last much longer then expected and continue during the
morning.
Users on slow subnets suffer a lot when this happens.
Is there a way to limit the network-traffic for a given network-interface?
The backupserver is an AS 500-5/333 with Tru64 V4.0E, and we are using Legato
Networker V5.2
