Dear all,
I have moved an HP DDS-3 DAT drive (C1554A) from a 3000/300 running DU
4.0D to a PWS 500au running 4.0F PK #1, firmware 5.4. Using a pretty
wide-narrow adapter I have added the DAT drive to the internal SCSI
bus but the moment the machine is booted it loses all devices on the
bus. Namely I get the usual "pkc... polling" message followed by no
devices on the bus which translates to "SCSI bus hosed"
Now, there is another narrow device on the bus with an identical
narrow-wide adapter and I have tried swapping adapters but to no
avail. SCSI Id's are correct (boot disk on ID 0, other disk on ID 2
and SCSI tape on ID 5, at boot the two disks become rz16 and rz20
which is correct). A show dev with only the DAT drive also causes the
same "pkc... polling" message.
The DAT drive is relatively new (about 4 months old) and was working
fine so it might be a blown SCSI i/f but it sounds strange.
Checking on HP's web pages there is a weird page about which DAT
drives are internally terminated and this particular model is not on
the "not terminated" list but it was sitting on the external SCSI bus
of the 3000/300 with another device and termination provided by an
active terminator at the end of the chain.
I am very confused... any help would be welcome.
Ciao,
Arrigo
