Basically,

This is a machine that for all intents and purposes was intentionally
"hobbled" (my words) to only support Win/NT. It *appears* that this is
purely a SysID in SROM issue (and any NT specific Peripheral cards that
may have been installed in the box, which can be replaced with "supported"
options). The system is most likely identical in other respects to
the AS800, it even has an SRM console (according the the PDF manual i
downloaded on it), a necessary (but not sufficient) component for running
Tru64UNIX and VMS.

There's some tidbits on dejanews about revectoring the SysID on a multia
to get it to run OpenVMS, and it seems that such a strategy *might* be
possible on the AS3300. I may play with this at some time. However,
we will probably be running Linux on these systems for the time being,
so thing should work.

John Koser runs Redhat Linux 6.0 on 2 of these beasts succesfully.

I am *hoping* that since DEC dropped support for Win/NT, that they
would consider adding the SysID recognition bits into future releases
of TRUNIX (DUNIX/COMIX..) and OVMS.
