-- ________________________________________________________________ Henry send a step-by-step list which stands for all responses and hit the problem: Your machine hasn't actually been permuted into an "a" series, but rather the "au" series offers both the Unix and the Windows console. You just need to switch back to SRM. 1. After power up press F2 to enter setup 2. Select CMOS setup 3. Press F6 to enter advanced 4. Tab to Console Selection 5. Select Digital Unix Console (SRM) 6. Press F10 key twice 7. Press Enter 8. Power Cycle. __________________________________________________________________ The original message: I have a strange problem which already occurs last Year: System: 2 PersonalWorklstations 433au running Dunix 4.0c and a quite new Firmware Installed. The problem is that in the neighbourhood there was some fire and we had to send the 2 PWSs 433au to be cleanded. I am not sure weather the cleaning company has removed the battery and/or the one eeprom inside - but I am sure they are on the same places as before. Getting back the two PWS they are thinking to be PWS 433a and NOT 433au . The boot procedure looks like : Messages like ... ... Press <Alt-Q> for Fast!Util ISP Firmware Version 2.6 Using IRQ Number 8 AlphaBios 5.68 ... after the messages obove a screen appears with a nice picture of the workstation but abnnouncing a 433a Workstation. I have never seen this picture and only can do something like InstallNT ... Trying to set the clock which seems to have a date like 2027 ... fails. I just want to get the srm console and get the old ,>>>' - Prompt. I was already doing a firmware Update to the latest revision which suceeded but didn't change the behaviour. ________________________________________________________ Rainer Wolf rainer.wolf_at_rz.uni-ulm.de Tel: 0731-50-22482 Fax: 0731-50-22471 Universitaet Ulm Universitaetsrechenzentrum Albert-Einstein-Allee 11 AG Basissysteme 89069 UlmReceived on Tue Jan 04 2000 - 09:08:28 NZDT
