This turns out not to be a Tru64 problem. There was a bug in the version
of cdrecord we were using that stops 64 bit machines being able to read
the cds produced.
To be able to use CDs on 64bit machines you need cdrecord version 1.8pre30
or higher. (The one shipped with RedHat 6.1 is 1.8pre29 - d'oh)
