We have a parallel printer on a JetDirect box on our LAN, and getting what seemed to be random time-outs when the job will start again form the top. The jobs are 2-3MB and are often 600+ pages long, just text stuff. No control code are sent out except by a header at the start. I originally thought it might be an out of spec cable on the LAN, but am not sure.

One suggestion is that they are changing paper in mid job , and somehow Unix is seeing this and starting again. I can't see this - but - any ideas???
I can't see why unix would restart the job from the top.
many thanks
Martin
