SUMMARY: Identifying external harddrive device.

A lot of people helped me out. thanks much.

Here are the basic suggestions I got. All of them are good, but
unfortunately, none of them worked..

Everyone wisely suggested that I check all of the connections, the
termination, and the scsi id numbers.

John Francini suggested that I make sure that the SCSI_RESET was set to at
least 3 or 4. (it was set to 4) This is the timeout for finding new scsi
devices. The number represents 2 to the n power seconds. So, 3 is 8
seconds, 4 is 16, etc.

A couple of people suggested that I make sure I had the most upgraded
firmware (I do).

A few people suggested that I recompile the kernel with a doconfig. (show
dev wasn't even seeing the drives, so this is actually a pre-kernel issue).

The most helpful suggestion came from Bob Marcan and Roger Leonard. They
suggested that from the console I do a "t tc1 cnfg". This tests and reports
on TurboChannel adapter #1. This ALMOST works!

That brings me to my problem. "t tc1 cnfg" shows all of the info on the
external devices, but "show dev" doesn't. I don't quite understand how that
is possible... So, if someone can fill me in on some possible causes of
this behavior, I would be VERY grateful.

Also, I called the manufacturer of the turbochannel card, and they say that
they stopped supporting it about 4 years ago, so there is no new firmware or
drivers for it...

Thanks again for all your help,
