Thanks to all who responded (and sorry for the late summary - I had an
email problem and could not send it earlier).

* Veritas Netbackup
        - Some of the big advantages with NetBackup are 1) an option to write
to tape in GNU-tar format vs a proprietary format (there is a throughput
hit with this option) for means of backup and archiving. 2) there Shared
Storage Option (ability to share a silo between numerous servers) works
compared to the Legato SmartMedia product (still unproven in our
opinion), 3) Veritas' ties to filesystem structure both with Unix and
with Windows2000.
        - Supports a wide variety of platforms.

* ArcServ from CA

* Alexandria by Eagle Software, Inc.
        - It's supposed to do everything Networker does, and be compatible with
DEC/Compaq equipment.

* Alexandria from Sterling (same as the above?).
http://www.sterling.com/content/prod_serv_factsheet.asp?plid=6&pid=149&sid=1
Alexandria is the backup software that Digital used to use for their
very large backup benchmarks.

* Knox from Arkeia

* STK

* CommVault

* Amanda.
        - www.amanda.org, Freeware.

* Netvault software looked pretty good.
        - For details about it, see the Web site at http://www.netvault.com.

* Networker
        - Best for enterprise backups and/or large amounts of data.
        - Pretty nice overall.
        - Pure crap.
        - Legato would be fine for a large scale operation, but we hardly
spend time with it, and it's too complicated

* Syncsort
        - Sort product is GREAT. No idea about their backup product.
        - Our environment was too big to the product. We instead looked at
Veritas NetBackup.
        - The product looked really nice but it did not perform as advertised.
