Hi, I manage three 4100 series alpha servers running Digital Unix 4.0E, I have Perl installed on one of these boxes and recently downloaded the Perl version of COPS but I am not convinced it is working correctly.

It reports my Passwd file line ...etc does not have 7 fields basicly every line in the Passwd file it complains about in this fashion. It also reports that every group in my group file contains nonnumeric group id's. They look numeric to me so what is it saying? I think Perl Cops is not working for me.

What package should I use to audit my system? I just want to check for general security problems. Is COPS the best product out there or is there better? It must be easy to use and hopefully free. Does anyone have any suggestions?
