I received several answers to my question. Dr. Thomas P. Blinn (UNIX
Software Group + Compaq Computer Corporation) stated "It should work,
but if it doesn't, you'll probably have to replace the system module so
I hope you have this on a service contract. I can assure you that this
big of a leap is never tested by the people who create the firmware
update software or media, but that's a really old platform, it should
just work."
Finally there has been no problems when upgrading following the
instructions at:
http://ftp.europe.digital.com/pub/DEC/Alpha/firmware/readmes/dec3000.html
Thanks to all who responded.

Original posting:
Could someone tell me please if there is any risk upgrading the firmware
directly from revision 3.2 to revision 7.0 (DEC 3000/600). Is there any
recommenadtion on a specific upgrade path? What else should be
considered for a "cold install" of DU 4.0x?
