Hi everyone -
Using the excellent advice of this list, I updated the firmware of my
Alphastation 250 4/266 (running DU 4.0E) from 6.3 to 7.0. The DE500-BA
network card is now recognized when I type "show config" at the system
(>>>) prompt as ewb0. I have set the speed more for the new port using the
"set ewb0 auto-negotiate" and the response was "RESULT: ewb0: link up:
Negotiated 100BaseTX: half duplex." (This was recommend in the firmware
update manual).
Dr. Tom Blinn & Sean O'Connell both mention the need to rebuild the kernel
using genvmunix. Sean also mentions running "doconfig" as part of this
process. I don't know how to do this, and I'm what passes for system
support around here. Could you tell me what to do next? I do know about
modifying rc.config to reflect the new tu1 (likely) device name.
Thanks to Dr. Blinn, Sean O'Connell, Michael at ORNL, Steven Hirsch, David
at Island Computers, and Selden Ball for your earlier responses.
Sincerely,
Colin
