The answer was( I figured ) :
a) boot -fi genvmunix
b) doconfig
c) mv /sys/MACHINE/vmunix /vmunix
d) shutdown -r now.
There were a few variations of this procedure, but rebuilding of the kernel
is
a must.

Subject:	How do I configure in my DE-500-BA Ethernet Card?
        Friends,
I have added a DE-500-BA 10/100 Ether/PCI card to an open PCI slot
in a AlphaServer 2100 running DU 4.0D w/ latest patches.
I assumed that it would be recognized at boot time.
        It wasn't.
Do I need to manually change the kernel config and reboot w/
genvmunix
        and run doconfig ?
How do I identify the slot to a PCI address.
tuo is currently on pci0 slot 0.
The DE-500 is in a slot labeled PCI 11 physically on the back of the
server.
Is there a way to "probe" the PCI bus ?
        I'm hoping I don't have to reboot.
        Thanks,
