SUMMARY;

Thanks to those who replied. (original message below) Thanks in particular
to Andrija Pantovic who confirmed my suspicions. After following up with
Compaq and then taking the system down it was discovered that the ethernet
switch was running at 100Half-duplex while the network cards on the system
were set at 100FULL-duplex. I reset them according to specs.

The systems now have the correct static routes, they have the correct speeds
on the LAN ethernet cards. In accordance with a Compaq specialist who paid a
visit, the primary circuit for the TruCluster was set at 10Half
(twisted-pair).

At SRM:-
set ewa0_mode fast !(equivalent to 100Half LAN card)
set ewb0_mode twisted-pair !(equivalent to 10Half TruCluster primary
circ)

In /etc/rc.config
IFCONFIG_0="10.1.1.6 netmask 255.255.255.0 speed 100"
IFCONFIG_1="192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 speed 10"

Since the change I have had just 2 error messages which could easily be
attibuted to the network actually having a momentary glitch. In the last 2
days there have been no further errors. This is in comparison to 30+ per day
we were getting.

Thanks again for the help.

Thanks
