I think it's not the graphics card.
I did a kill -1 on the PID that read xdm -:0.0 (or something like that in
the command),
which allowed the console to be a tty console. As well I kill -1 on the
getty process
attached to the console
I tried logging in from the cosole as root, it worked, logged
out, no X display :( I get the following error:
/usr/tcb/bin/XIsso & /usr/tcb/bin/XSysAdmin "Can't open Display"
I tried stopping the Xserver then starting it with /sbin/init.d/xdm start
and stop - no effect. (seemed to be the majority of the suggestions so far)
I did a ps and grep for xdm afterwards and the following line showed
for the command that was running:
"/usr/bin/X11/xdm -config /usr/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-config"
It's looking more and more like a reboot scenerio, but If I can avoid
it I'd like to try. (Rebooting is not a problem - just not for a couple
more hours)
